Staying safe
FindBack works because neighbors trust each other — but trust is earned carefully. A few simple habits keep recoveries warm and worry-free.
Meet in public
Choose a busy, well-lit place — a cafe, a transit station, a police-station lobby. Daytime beats night. Never invite a stranger to your home, and never go to theirs.
Ask identifying details first
Before handing anything over, ask the other person to describe a detail only the true owner would know. A real owner can tell you what's inside, what's scratched, what's engraved.
Keep contact info private
Use FindBack messages until you're confident. There's no need to share your phone number, address, or email to arrange a handoff.
Bring someone along
If you can, don't go alone. Tell a friend where you're meeting and when you expect to be back.
Never pay in advance
No legitimate return requires money up front. If someone demands a fee, a gift card, or a wire transfer before showing the item, walk away and report them.
Report what feels wrong
Pressure, threats, or requests that don't add up — flag the listing or message. We review every report.
In an emergency
If you ever feel unsafe, leave and call local emergency services. No item is worth your safety.
